the road to Boston

Remember last week when I bailed on my speed workout at the track?

Well, I got my butt out of bed at 5am to 57 degrees [!!] and threw on my running shorts. Once I pulled up and saw 40 some other runners there, I was so so so glad I had come. Some runners are training for the Charlottesville 10 miler in March and others are training for the Boston Marathon in April.

And I'm kind of in between.  My plan is racing the 10 miler in March the best I can and then a marathon in September to hopefully qualify for Boston. So, today I was running with the Boston group. Not going to lie, I was a little nervous but everyone was so nice and welcoming.

After a 2 mile warmup and some stretching, I found my pace group.

On tap today...
6 x 800 meter repeats with 2 min recovery jog in between
2 @ 1/2 marathon pace [7:30] 2 @ 10k pace [6:50] and the last 2 @ 5k pace [6:30]

Then 2 x 400 meter repeats @ 5k pace with a 1 minute jog in between
1 mile cooldown

Some repeats were a little quick but for the most part, I was right on pace and felt good the entire workout. I desparately miss the running community so I am so excited to get back into it! If anyone can get me to Boston it's this group. The lovely Laura was at the track snapping pictures, huge thanks to her! Seeing her face at 5am and having her support made my morning, she is the best.

Onto the food! It's Wednesday, actually What I Ate Wednesday hosted by Jenn over at Peas and Crayons. Thanks Jenn!

After a hot shower and coffee I made a green smoothie with my favorite Vega One, frozen banana, spinach, and soymilk to take in the car.

And then took some pumpkin breakfast bakes to work with almond butter. Baking these ahead of time makes breakfast a breeze. Put in tupperware, blob with nutbutter, and go.

This morning Dr. K and I were figuring out the metabolic testing machine for our weight loss program which measures body fat %, BMR, muscle mass, etc. After too much time messing with it and testing it I got hungry.

Celery and PB! Standard mid morning snack.

Lunch was the last of leftover vegan spinach artichoke dip [love this recipe!] in a wrap with sundried tomatoes and zucchini plus broccoli slaw dressed with mayo and apple cider vinegar and an apple.

And kombucha is my latest addiction. Whole Foods had them buy one get one free a couple Friday's ago and I. stocked. up. These fermented teas are full of probiotics! Favorite flavor is this guy.

Afternoon hunger was silenced with snacks. Some handfuls of granola, sliced apple, and a peanut butter banana bar. The sweet tooth was on fire.

Andy was home sick yesterday so I picked up ingredients for green smoothies at WF and dinner at Chipotle!

Because we all know Chipotle's guac can cure anything...

I ate Chipotle at least once a week back in college. Friends, this is the freshest fast food around. Bonus: it's cheap and healthy! Brown rice, black beans, fajita vegetables, corn salsa, pico, perfectly shredded romaine, and zee best guac.

And since I'm trying to clean out the fridge this week, I found this random soymilk pudding cup that I put some whip cream on and called dessert.

Pudding cups are awesome, must get more.

It's suppose to be in the high 60's today and I'm hoping to get outside! Have a fabulous Wednesday friends!

  7. Morning work out sessions are THE BEST! I do them every morning, even when I want to kick it in bed for another 4 hours - LOL! I always PUSH myself because I KNOW I will feel 18 x better when I am done, and it always amazes me that that's the TRUTH!! :)

  9. I'm really intrigued by Kambucha and those VegaOne packets - I really do need to make a trip over to Whole Foods and check them both out. I need to experiment and expand what I eat, and these seem like some stable things to try :)

And good luck with the training! I live in Boston and seeing the marathon runners every April is so inspiring.
