Television, magazines, online calculators, and even other health professionals falsely conclude that a person needs 1,200 calories to lose weight or should only be eating 1,600-1,800 calories to maintain weight and this just isn’t true.
Our bodies are extremely efficient when they are functioning like they should. But when they haven’t been fueled with adequate amounts of food, they go into metabolic hibernation- meaning our cells turn into warehouses instead of batteries and not only is it very difficult to lose weight but any deviation from our “normal eating routine” can cause weight gain, bloating, etc.
Under eating or restrictive eating can also cause you to lose your menstrual cycle. That’s because when the body is not getting nourished like it should, it will compensate for the lack of calories. The first place it does that is the reproductive system since we don’t need it to live.
But metabolisms can be restored! Read more below on signs that you might have a slow metabolism and why you should be eating more.
